The details from our previous website follow, but – unfortunately – without the photographs.

JAE 625 Thurmer, Ferd. Meisen, Germany Upright Pianoforte with stool.Serial number 6 807, built around 1892. Under-damper action. Beautiful burr walnut case, with inlay. Wagner: There are thirteen different piano manufacturers who used the name Wagner or part of their name being Wagner. We have also found a few pianos re-labelled Wagner which are actually Kemble pianos, one of the examples is the DE 508 Kemble. This particular piano had been re-labelled Wagner as well as Carlton, but was actually initially manufactured as a Kemble piano. So one has to study each Wagner further to establish its value and where it was made: New York, Chigargo, Mexico, Germany or London.

HRE 10 Waldemar Upright Pianoforte with stool.
Weber & Co.
JAE 110 WeberUpright Pianoforte with stool. Serial number: 11051 71278. This piano was manufactured in London and has a mahogany casing. Before we bought the piano, someone had spent a lot of money on restoring it with new hammers, key tops, a re-polished casing and so on. It has a bright and lively tone and – with being so tall – it has a wonderful richness and projection of sound. It has 88 keys, with a medium to heavier touch, and 2 pedals. The dimensions of this piano are a height of 132 cm, width of 155.5 cm and a depth of 62.5 cm.
JAE 130 WeberUpright Pianoforte with stool. Serial number: 71278. Manufactured in London, this mahogany-cased piano has interesting, curved frames, especially in the top front panel. Its panels have an almost Art Noveau design to them. As one would expect of a taller piano, it has a strong tone, and of a piano manufactured in the U.K., the sturdy tone is brighter. The piano has 85 keys, with a medium to lighter touch, and 2 pedals. The dimensions are: a height of 123 cm, a width of 147 cm and a depth of 65.5 cm.
Weimar: The only example that we have of this piano is one that was actually manufactured by Suzuki and re-labelled Weimar. View DE 731 Suzuki.

Welmar
JAE 401 Welmar Upright Pianoforte with matching stool. This piano has been re-polished to a red mirror-finish. It was one of our first bespoke finished pianos – as in taking a modern twist to the traditional finished on pianos, in this case reverting from the typical black mirror finish. This is a premier quality piano from a great manufacturer. The piano has a rich, mellow tone, 88 keys – with a medium to heavier touch – and 2 pedals. The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 109 cm; a width of 143 cm and a depth of 56 cm.
JAE 604 Welmar Serial number: 20860. Built in London, 1937. These tall upright pianos are very well respected in the trade. The design has proved timeless, this piano would fit very well into a modern-design home. Walnut case repolished by our workshop. We have restrung the piano with Rosslau steel, in favour of the galvanised “English” steel, generally considered inferior. Ivory keys. A lovely piano. This piano’s dimensions are: height of 122 cm, width of 143 cm and depth of 58.5 cm.
JAE 634 WelmarUpright piano with matching stool.

DE 919 Welmar Grand Pianoforte with matching stool. Serial number: 60490. This piano was manufactured in London. Welmar pianos gained great popularity around World War II as the makers were agents for German pianos (they imported German piano into Britain) and could no longer import the pianos due to unavailability at the time and less popular due to the negative German sentiments. They are beautifully manufactured instruments which tend to have characteristics associated with quality German pianos. Eshelby Pianos re-polished this piano to a high-gloss white finish (June 2022).
W. H. Barnes
JAE 64 W. H. Barnes Upright Pianoforte with matching stool. Serial number: 142478. Being taller than is common for English pianos, this one has a good bright tone. The proportions are very pleasing. This piano’s dimensions are: height of 125 cm, width of 143 cm and depth of 58.5 cm.
Wickham
We are not sure if there was actually a piano manufactured by the Wickham factory, but we are aware that they manufactured the frames for other brands of piano.
We purchased the JAE 65 labelled Otto Bach, but it had been re-labelled Otto Bach and is not of the brand. This specific piano was definately built in America and the frame is clearly manufactured by Wickham, however, the specific piano factory that manufactured the piano is a mystery. We have hence decided to label the piano a Wickham.
The image on the right is an advertisement for Wickham Piano Plates from the from the Music Trade Review. The advertisementwas published during March 1949.
JAE 65 Wickham Upright Pianoforte with matching stool. Serial number: 300569; 7971. Re-labelled Otto Bach, this console piano, with a mahogany casing, is an American piano of very good quality judging by the internal parts. Although it looks like a Wurlitzer, it is of a higher quality and is really lovely! Wickham is cast into the frame (56 7 24). The piano has 88 keys, with a lighter touch weight, and 3 pedals 3 – the miiddle pedal operating the bass dampers only. The dimensions of this piano are: height of 96,5 cm, width of 144,5 cm and depth of 58 cm.

This piano’s dimensions are: height of 113 cm, width of 135 cm and depth of 57 cm.
Winkellmann
Winkellmann (Zeitter and Winkellmann) Upright Pianoforte with stool.

Wolfframm
DE 198 Wolfframm Upright Pianoforte with matching stool. Serial number: 238/915. Manufactured in Dresden, Germany this is a magnificent piano with incredibly clean internals. The black casing is worn, but not damaged. There is something special about a piece of furniture acquiring marks of use over the years; this can either be considered developing patina or a need for repolish. The piano has a wonderfully bright and clear tone. It has 85 keys, with a medium weight touch, and 2 pedals. The dimensions are a height of 132 cm, a width of 152 cm and a depth of 67 cm.
Wölfram
HJG 100 Wölfram Upright Pianoforte with matching stool. Serial number: 16742. The piano is simple in structure – almost identical to the Classic Model, South African manufactured Otto Bach.
Wurlitzer, The & Co.: Factory was established in 1856, in Chicago, America. Although avoided by some piano technicians due to being difficult to access parts for repairs, Eshelby Pianos favours these pianos as they are hardy and attractive, therefore completely worth the extra effort. Typically associated with Jazz musicians, Wurlitzer pianos have a lively and brighter tone.
JAE 19 Wurlitzer Upright Pianoforte with matching stool. Serial number: 212364. This is a small piano which has been re-polished to a very dark stain walnut, done in a wax finish with a low lustre look (07/2019). The piano has 88 keys, with a medium weight touch, and 3 pedals (the middle pedal operates the bass dampers exclusively). Because the action “hangs” off the keys, these spinets have a very responsive and quick feel, perhaps more similar to a grand piano touch. The dimensions of this piano are: height of 95 cm, width of 145 cm and depth of 62 cm.
JAE 28 Wurlitzer Upright Pianoforte with stool. Serial number: 55255. This is a spinet model, built in the USA, and has a mahogany casing. It is a lovely small piano – with a dainty appeal. JAE 49 Wurlitzer Upright Piano with matching stool.
DE 248 Wurlitzer Upright Piano with matching stool. This is a Spinet-style, American piano. It has a very attractive, compact shape and mahogany casing. Wurlitzer’s were a favourite among Jazz and club pianists, one great advantage being that the pianist could see his audience and fellow musicians over the top of the piano. They are full of life and character, and as tough as nails!
DE 337 Wurlitzer Upright Pianoforte with stool. Serial number: 335648. This piano was manufactured in 1947, in America. This is an unbelievably pretty piano. It has carved cabriole legs, the first we have seen on a Wurlitzer, as well as lovely details like the fretwork music desk and lyre detail on the bottom door panel. Finished in a high gloss mahogany casing, this style of piano remains ever popular. The low back makes for a very attractive and unobtrusive piece. Wurlitzer pianos are well known for their reliability and robust build quality – the make of piano that is associated with Jazz musicians. This piano has 88 keys; 3 pedals, of which the middle one sustains the bass section only, and a medium to lighter touch. The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 94.5 cm, width of 143 cm and a depth of 65 cm.
JAE 415 Wurlitzer Upright Pianoforte with stool. Serial number: 218185. This was a much treasured piano by its previous owner who had it for about sixty years.
The piano was re-painted with chalk paint (September 2017) with a grey-brown undercoat and a pure white top coat. The piano has not been disressed to reveal the undercoat. One can see the original finish in the photo to the far left. Although the piano had obvious appeal with the original casing, the casing was worn and needed to be revitalised. It now looks very smart with the modern chalk paint combined with the bronze details. The piano is made by a very well-known manufacturer, Wurlitzer, in America; it is compact and sure to be a talking point in anyone’s house! The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 95 cm, width of 146 cm and a depth of 63 cm.
JAE 426 Wurlitzer Upright Pianoforte with stool. Serial number: 174517. This piano has been painted with pure white chalk paint (September 2017) which suits a piano with as much structural detail as this piano. Being such a compact piano, this Wurlitzer would be a feature piece that would fit in most houses whilst still maintaining the impact of the Wurlitzer sound affiliated with Jazz music. The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 85 cm, width of 145 cm and a depth of 62.5 cm.
JAE 453 Wurlitzer Upright Pianoforte with stool. Serial number: 317821. This piano was painted with chalk paint (02/2021). The piano has 88 keys – with a lighter touch – and 3 pedals (the middle pedal for bass only). The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 94 cm, a width of 147 cm and a depth of 66 cm. The photograph is of the piano before it was painted and we will add photographs as time allows.

HJG 110 Wurlitzer Upright Pianoforte with matching stool. Serial number: 51042.
DE 910 Wurlitzer Grand Pianoforte with matching stool. Made in the U.S.A., this piano has lovely proportions and a walnut casing.
This piano has remained in one family since new, some history is available. The condition remains most original. American pianos like this are rare in our market, and are of excellent quality. They have a generally acclaimed reputation in the trade for great reliability and strength. This would be very hard to beat.
