The details from our previous website follow, but – unfortunately – without the photographs.

Mackay Bros

JAE 97 Mackay Bros Upright Pianoforte with stool.  Serial number 6350. This piano has a burr walnut casing, note the detail of the etched centre panel. Being called the Transvaal model makes this a piece of South African history! The piano would date to pre 1920 and one can’t help but think of its history. It would likely have been brought to Africa on a steam ship, and have been transported by wagon to its destination. If only these items could speak! Mackay was a name used by a dealership as opposed to being a factory. The piano is German, and was probably manufactured by a factory like Zimmermann. The dimensions of this piano are: a height of 125 cm, width of 150 cm and a depth of 63 cm.

HJG 33 Mackay Bros Upright Pianoforte with matching stool. Serial number: 483/479/62730.

JAE 34 Mahler Parka Upright pianoforte with stool. Serial number: 27674. Model 108. This piano was manufactured in Nordhammar, Sweden. We see very few pianos of Scandanavian manufacture. The piano has 88 keys, with a medium to heavier touch, and 3 pedals. The dimensions are: a height of 109 cm; a width of 142 cm and a depth of 53.5 cm.

Manthey Klaviano

The tone is crisp and well-rounded with a very good quality of sound throughout. The keyboard consists of 80 keys (A-G), with a medium to firm touch and has 2 pedals. This piano’s dimensions are height of 91.5 cm, width of 137 cm and depth of 53 cm.

DE 333 Hermann Mayr Upright Pianoforte with stool . Serial number: 632413. It would appear that this piano was built in Germany, but is unusual in its build, so is possibly a late model Eastern European piano; it is likely that it was manufactured in Russia. It is an all-round very smart piano. The high gloss mahogany casing is extremely clean and impressive looking. A tall piano at 121 cm tall. The tone is excellent and has a big piano sound. The piano has 88 keys – with a heavier touch weight – and three pedals. The dimensions of this piano are a: height of 121 cm, width of 145 cm and depth of 61 cm.

Monington and WestonUpright Pianoforte with matching stool.

JAE 74 Monnington and Weston Upright with stool. This piano has a lovely, light walnut casing with patina. Patina is the natural wear that comes with use, time and polish. It cannot be replicated artificially and is a mark of character. The piano is very compact, very narrow,  and is on the upper end of the Monnington production line.

The French Provincial finish really suits this piano because of the extra details on the piano’s structure and the blue undercoat is more interesting than a more subtle colour, like grey.
