Serial number: 203709. What a wonderfully, typically American war-time piano!
We see very few of these taller model Wurlitzer uprights. Its boxy shape and clean – although deceptively styled – casing, in top quality walnut, really gives it a robust, solid feel.
One could imagine a piano like this doing work in the military or more likely a jazz club.
The piano is designed for the seated pianist to be able to see their audience over the top of the piano. The top door and music rest are formed into one piece, making the piano impenetrable to spilt drinks, bits falling off when things get rowdy et cetera…
It’s full of character and is an incredibly solid piece of work both in build structure as well as in terms of amazing tuning stability and reliability.
The tone is lively but still rich. The piano has 88 keys and 3 pedals. The keys have a medium touch weight and a positive, reactive feel. The middle pedal lifts the bass dampers separately. The dimensions are a height of 110 cm, a width of 143 cm and a depth of 63 cm.
The JAE 49 Wurlitzer Upright Piano with stool is currently considered under restoration as the casing needs to be re-polished.
