Carl Scheel Upright Piano (608)

A Carl Scheel in Cassel… gosh, this certainly is a make that we are eager to elaborate about and will do so when time allows. In brief, this is only the second Scheel piano Deon has seen, and this is what he has to say about these pianos:

They are both spectacular! They must have been top of the line options of their day and would have been ridiculously expensive – probably by special order for clients as this is no production run piano! Truly unique, dare we say perhaps one of a kind? Every detail is exceptional. One must remember this is a hand-built piece, requiring true knowledge and craftsmanship to complete. An entire modern piano must cost less to produce than just a few details of this piano. If only we knew it’s history. Another one of those, “I can’t believe we found this in Johannesburg!” moments!

The casing is rosewood, in original finish with superb patina, just what a true collector wants to see. The photographs are of the piano as we received it and we will add more once it has been cleaned up.

The tone is a deep rich sound, with surprising range. Making this exceptional in that often an ornate antique piano is not really a serious playing piano, but this ought to suit even a serious player. The keys are original ivory clad. The piano has 85 keys (original ivory-clad keys) – with a medium to lighter touch weight and 2 pedals. The dimensions of the piano are a height of 128.5 cm, a width of 161 cm and a depth of 68 cm.

The JAE 608 Carl Scheel in Cassel upright and stool is patiently waiting for attention…
