This Baldwin Acrosonic piano was manufactured by the Baldwin Piano Company in the United States of America. Branded Acrosonic, it was the Baldwin Company’s production of these pianos from 1936 that extensively established and solidified their economic certainty! Designed for smaller homes with an awesome aesthetic appearance matched with the deep bass American sound, the popularity was secured!
It is important to note that this is a standard height piano known as a Console model (typically standing 100-112 cm); most Acrosonic pianos we have seen are of the Spinet version. Although leaning to the height of a Baldwin Hamilton, it is clearly labelled an Acrosonic. We feel it rivals any American made piano that we have tried, including a very similar model from arguably the best maker of pianos in the world.
The staining of the case is to a mahogany colour, although the veneer is a figured walnut with very beautiful graining. The immense detail on the piano makes it extremely attractive and must have cost a premium when new.
This is a remarkable piano of a very high quality and finish, with a lively and substantial tone. The piano has 88 keys, with a medium to lighter touch, the naturals being ivory clad, and 3 pedals. The middle pedal lifts the bass dampers and is not a dampening pedal. The dimensions of this piano are a height of 112 cm, a width of 145,5 cm and a depth of 65 cm.
The JAE 628 Baldwin Acrosonic Upright Pianoforte and stool is currently considered under restoration.
