Serial number: 1618634. This gorgeous console model Young Chang upright was manufactured in Korea. We have become increasingly fond of Young Chang uprights as we find them to be of consistently good quality, very much comparable to their better-known competitors. Although South Africa does see many Young Chang pianos, this one was brought into this country by its previous owner, so is possibly even unique here. It retains its matching stool. The condition is original and extremely well kept.
One has to stop for a moment to consider the additional design, detailing and craftmanship that went into the construction of this piano. This has an especially beautiful case with much detail, turned and fluted legs, fretwork music desk and top panel, moulded edges and panels. The oak casing is also special as light colour pianos are usual. This certainly is a stylish premier quality piano!
The tone is pleasantly rich, unlike many modern pianos which tend to border on being tinny. The piano has 88 keys – with a medium firm touch – and 3 pedals. The middle pedal operates a celeste-felt rail. The dimensions are a height of 112 cm, a width of 143.5 cm and a depth of 62 cm.
