Young Chang Upright Piano (671)

Serial number: 070554; 799262. Manufactured in Korea, this model U121 Young Chang was rebranded Bernhards Steiner in the days when in the days when Bernhard Steiner was a more recognised label for pianos in South Africa. The U-series of Young Chang pianos is highly regarded and can be very fairly compared to the equivalent model/size options from any reputable piano builder and there’s offer extremely good value for money as one can get an equivalent standard piano for very much less than one would pay for its most famous competitors.

This one is finished in a satin mahogany. There are slight veneer cracks on the sides of the piano. We feel however that the repair of these is unwarranted as they do not detract from the overall appeal of the piano.

The tone is well rounded, full and rich – the generally preferred mellower tone recognised as produced from Eastern manufacture around the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s. Later production has a far brighter tone, although appreciated by some advanced players – too sharp for intermediate learners. The piano has 88 keys – with a medium, firm touch – and 3 pedals. The middle pedal is a practice pedal, operating the celeste felt rail. The quality and touch will suit any serious player, teacher and the like. The dimensions are a height of 121 cm, a width of 150,5 cm and a depth of 63 cm.

The DE 671 Young Chang (rebranded Bernhard Steiner) upright pianoforte and stool is currently hired out.
