Steinway Upright Piano (699)

Serial number: 353366. This Steinway and Sons upright piano was manufactured in Hamburg, Germany. Take a moment to marvel at this magnetic mellow masterpiece!

It is such a rarity to find a flagship model German made piano from this era in South Africa. In fact, Deon recalls only having just one comparable model K throughout his working history. The model K is probably the ultimate upright piano touch when comparing to a grand piano touch, something that would matter to a serious musician or student.

An idyllically imposing instrument finished in a satin figured mahogany showing wonderful, mottled graining and book matching veneers flowing through the front view of the piano. It appears to be original in terms of the French polished casing, beautiful undamaged ivory keys and felts. The piano looks to have had tuning pins replaced at some point in its history.

The tone is exceptional as one would expect. Nothing has the depth of tone a large German upright of this calibre can offer, with an endless range of possibilities of emotion and contrast. The piano has 88 keys – with a medium to heavier touch weight – and 2 pedals. The dimensions are a height of 132 cm, a width of 154 cm and a depth of 68 cm.
