Serial number: 14124. This piano was manufactured in the Zimmermann Factory, in Germany, in the 1930’s. Because of this and its height, it produces a better sound than the Otto Bach pianos manufactured in South Africa. In fact, it bears no resemblance to a modern South African made Otto Bach. It is really a Zimmermann piano with a higher quality that has been branded Otto Bach. However, whether produced in South Africa or Germany, Otto Bach piano are possibly the most popular intermediate pianos in South Africa.
The piano has a mahogany casing with an oval panel with quarter veneering in the top panel. Although Zimmermann-Otto Bach pianos are easily recognisable for their general structure, this one has unusual additional beaded detailing in the top frame.
This beautiful piano has a full and rich tone, 88 keys and 2 pedals. Its dimensions are height of 132 cm, width of 151.5 cm and depth of 65.5 cm.
The JAE 103 Otto Bach Upright Pianoforte with stool is currently awaiting a general service.
