John Brinsmead Upright Piano (127)

Serial number: 80406. Manufactured in London in the early 1920’s, this piano would have a greater association with the pioneer John Brinsmead himself and his enterprising three sons than most still available. They were influential, innovative piano craftsmen elaborately embellishing and energetically manufacturing the musical instrument as it evolved in the 1800’s, his youngest son still involved in the early 1900’s. But alas, the company was sold to J. B. Cramer & Company after First World War, and both were purchased by Kemble Piano Company in 1967, who continued to build pianos under the Brinsmead & Sons name until the early 1980. In 1988, Yamaha of Japan acquired the controlling shares of Kemble Piano Group. It would be brilliant if Yamaha could revisit the Brinsmead family designs and brand…

But here is this tall wonder. This piano has a presence! It is spruce, smart and sophisticated with its fine frames, dapper detailing and warm walnut casing. Although larger pianos may not suit modern households with space limitations, it is worth it if you can accommodate it as they generally have a better tone.

Suiting a scholar, the keys have a medium weight touch that produce a playful, fresh and lively tone. Its dimensions are a height of 129 cm, a width of 148.5 cm and a depth of 62 cm.
