Serial number: 125653. This Model 189 Grötrian-Steinweg, manufactured in Braunsweig, Germany was built in 1984. Grötrian is one of the most famous and long-lived German factories.
It is a very unlikely find in South Africa. Our supply of the best quality German pianos appears to have been extremely good in the pre second world war era. With the changes brought about post war, we see less and less of these pianos from the 1950s to 70s and practically none thereafter. It is internally all original and to add the cherry on top, it is finished in a gloss black. This seemed too good to be true, but we were temporarily the very proud owners of one of the best pianos in the world.
The rich German tone is exceptional and very few grands can compare. The resonance and projection of sound makes one feel as if you are in a concert hall! This length of piano has always had huge appeal as it’s slightly larger than most grands on the market, but still of an accommodating size for homes. The piano has 88 keys and 3 pedals.
The DE 958 Grotrian Steinweg grand pianoforte with stool was sold in March 2023.
