Fritz Kuhla Upright Piano (275)

Serial number: 2724. This piano was manufactured in Germany in the 1950’s. This piano has a walnut finish.

This piano is an example of a modernised piano: English Reconditions. The top panel has a smart, slight lip over the top front panel, which looks quite unusual, and the legs of the piano have a refined half bow curve. The legs look quite like those used with a model of Chappell pianos (manufactured in London). As you can see with the photographs, the external structure of this piano looks remarkably similar to the JAE 121 Chappell Upright Pianoforte, though it maintains the play and sound of a German Fritz Kuhla!

It has a medium to brighter tone, with a nice bass, 85 keys – with a medium touch – and 2 pedals. The dimensions are a height of 124 cm, a width of 139 cm and a depth of 60,5 cm.

The DE 275 Fritz Kuhla Upright Pianoforte with stool is currently hired out.

Here is some more information about modernised pianos

Referred to as ‘English Reconditions’, there was a period where tradesmen altered the original outer structures of pianos, adjusting the appearance of the pianos to adapt to current demand. The pianos were thus rebuilt and ‘modernised’. Changes included modification of the panel and overall shape; removal of mouldings and decoration and even, sometimes, the piano legs were changed. The most common and obvious change was usually with the top panel.

Other examples of modernised pianos are the DE 530 Kellman Upright Piano and JAE 117 George Rogers Upright Piano.
