Serial number: 141074. This Model S Bechstein grand piano – manufactured in Berlin, Germany – was built in 1937. This era of piano building is often considered the peak of the art, with European factories forever altered after the war, those that kept going lost huge amounts of skilled, experienced labour and components, timbers and so on.
We believe that this is the smallest model Bechstein grand made at approximately 148cm in length. Quality really shows in a small grand as the size needs to produce a good tone from shorter strings.
The wonderful part of this is having the aesthetics of a grand, the most important touch and feel of a grand, in a smaller space, something that makes this size especially desirable.
It is cased in a mahogany veneer. All parts are original without any significance wear. The ivory keys are absolutely beautifully kept, as is the piano in general. The Bechstein is most certainly a very special piano and of the highest quality and is in exceptionally good condition. It amazes us how these things survive in this way. A truly beautiful thing!
As one would hope, it has a brilliantly warm and rounded German tone. The piano has 88 keys – with a pleasant medium range touch weight – and 2 pedals.
