Baldwin Acrosonic Upright Piano (448)

Serial number: 410175. This Baldwin Acrosonic piano was manufactured in New York, the United States of America. Baldwin is one of America’s oldest and well-respected factories. It is branded Acrosonic, and just in case someone did not recognise the association, it is clearly stated to be ‘a product of Baldwin’ on the frame.

This Acrosonic model is a Spinet style piano with an exceptionally unusual and attractive appearance. It retains it’s rather pretty, original and matching stool. This is an unusual piano with a small footprint which would suit a contemporary household. The aesthetic craftmanship, smaller size and internal quality of the Acrosonic is said to have secured the Baldwin Piano Company’s finances. It is easy to see why!

We have refinished it in Annie Sloan chalk paint, in a shade of grey, which reflects beautifully in differing shades depending on the light (February 2020).

The piano has 88 keys with a very pleasant, ‘solid’ feel. Because of the way the action operates in a Spinet piano, one pulls the hammers forward on the keys, so they can feel very positive and more like a grand piano in touch. This is a nice touch to become accustomed to. The piano has 3 pedals, the middle pedal operates the bass dampers only and is not a mute pedal as on some uprights. This piano’s dimensions are a height of 91 cm, a width of 150.5 cm and a depth of 65 cm.

The JAE 448 Baldwin Acrosonic Upright Pianoforte and stool is currently hired out.
