Serial number 13209. This is something special! It is an exquisite example of an early 20th Century piano showing true craftsmanship and hand-built pride. The piano has magnificent burr and straight walnut casing with much detail, carving and etching, turned legs and so on.
Although neglected for very many years, it is in rather good condition. The back is solid, no strings are broken, and the tuning pins are firm. …quite amazing! The action needs good servicing and will need new damper felts as a section appears to have gotten wet. The keys are in original ivory and in good condition.
The tone, as would be expected is extremely rich and warm. The bass has that unmistakable rumble that only a tall German piano seems to produce. The piano has 85 keys – with a medium touch weight – and 3 pedals, the middle one being a celeste-felt rail. It is unusual for an early piano to have 3 pedals. The dimensions are a height of 132 cm, a width of 152.5 cm and a depth of 66.5 cm.
The DE 679 August Förster Upright Pianoforte and stool is currently hired out.
