Serial number: 27780. This piano was manufactured in Vienna, Austria, in 1957. We are fortunate enough to have found and purchased this piano from this fabled maker who has become one of Austria’s most famous exports. In the world of pianos, we do not think any single brand has achieved the notoriety and esteem that Bösendorfer has. They are extremely rare. Referencing the Pierce Piano Atlas, in the decade in which our piano was manufactured, the factory produced just over 1000 instruments, averaging just 100 a year. If one then considers that only some of these pianos manufactured were grands, how many can exist and how incredibly few must have made it to Africa?
This example has been in family ownership for decades and was reluctantly offered for sale by the family of the late owner. It appears as all original. Repolished to a high gloss black finish in June 2020, this piano encompasses elusive quality now has the alluring aesthetic much sought after in the current marketplace.
The silky feel of the action is quite astonishing, with a fairly light touch not found on most grand piano actions. The ivory keys are in superb condition – as is the whole mechanism. This is a proper treasure. Deon has, in his over 30 years of experience in the trade, only had two Bösendorfer pianos for resale. The piano is 170 cm in length.
The DE 942 Bösendorfer Grand Pianoforte and stool is currently hired out.

We spraypainted and repolished the sapele mahogany casing to a high gloss black in June 2020, as we feel the sapele look is less appealing to modern buyers. The wood has however been sealed prior to ebonising so could be returned in years to come.
