This piano was manufactured in London, by Whelpdale, Maxwell and Codd. Welmar is a highly regarded make!
The casing is in a figured walnut which has striking grains, repolished to a satin finish. People generally do not realise just how much effort went into the veneering process on these instruments. To book-match grains and achieve the flow of that carrying through the whole case, is truly an artform. A black polished piano has none of that level of craftsmanship required.
This is genuinely an exceptionally nice piano, having a medium weight touch, wonderful responsiveness and range. A beautiful and exceptionally well restored piano, with an amazingly clear and substantial tone quality on the brighter end of the scale, but not tinny.
It was owned by someone who understood the piano and music and had accolades in music. As such it is a piano suitable for any level of pianist.
The piano has 88 keys and 2 pedals. The naturals are original ivory.
The DE 950 Welmar Grand Pianoforte with matching is currently hired out.
