Serial number: 174168. Bernhard Steiner was a house brand name used by a South African piano house over decades. They primarily brought in pianos from the East but also rebranded pianos that already existed in the local market as well as sourced pianos from other parts of the world.
So, identification of the origin of these pianos can – at times – be tricky unless one knows and can positively see makers traits and designs. This particular piano is slightly confusing because Deon felt sure that the back and casing was Kawai. Kawai was a well-known supplier of pianos for Steiner. But…the action is Renner, which is German. So presumably this is a collaboration between the two, making it a beautiful piano, with a rich German style tone quality, gained from Renner hammers.
It is really lovely and has a wonderful touch of a medium firm weight. The dimensions are a height of 115 cm, a width of 146 cm and a depth of 63 cm. It has 88 keys and 2 pedals.
The DE 638 Bernhard Steiner upright pianoforte and stool is currently hired out.
