Serial number: 55277. This anomalous and attractive Allison grand piano was manufactured in London.
Both the Germans and English built many ‘cheaper’ baby grand pianos which don’t have a good reputation. Allison is not a brand we seek out. But oddly – we presume because factories must have had a range of qualities of pianos – one sometimes is really surprised by how good one of their offerings can be. This is that surprise piano, that absolutely stands out from the usual and is very impressive. This is top quality: visible in the solid build, use of quality parts, the proper grand double escapement action and so on. Internally, it is completely original. In high gloss black, it’s a stunning piece, undervalued at its price.
The tone is cheerful with a lovely depth. It’s 88 keys with ivory-clad naturals are the best possible quality and condition you’ll see. The touch is medium to firm and very consistent. Its dimensions are a length of 140cm and a width of 143cm.
